kansas or oz?

I'm reading The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows by John Koenig, where he “defines new words for emotions that we all feel but don't have the language to express.”

In it, he defines the word Ozurie: feeling torn between the life you want and the life you have. (from Oz + the prairie, with you caught somewhere in between).

He imagines what happens to Dorothy when she returns to the black & white world of Kansas after having tasted Oz.

He writes, “as she makes her way to school the next morning, she now carries with her a certain unshakable awareness - that her gray gingham dress is secretly blue, that her charcoal hair is actually a rich auburn, that the sky catches fire when the sun goes down.”

She's caught between the comfort & security of home and the adventure & wonder of Oz.

It's a tension that may feel familiar to you. Do you stick with your safe job or explore your passions and follow a dream? Do you stay in a relationship that is good enough or reach for one that lights your soul on fire?

Oz calls out to all of us. When it does, you have a choice to make. Stay in the comfort and safety of Kansas or see what's over the rainbow.

In this place of indecision, Koenig writes, “you are like Dorothy, sitting up in her bed, trying to decide which pair of slippers she wants to wear today. Black or ruby? Black or ruby?”

Which will it be - Kansas or Oz?

Love,

Jessica

P.s. If your heart says Oz, I would love to support you in discovering what Oz means to you and how we get you there. Not via tornado! But through the magical vehicle of coaching.
