i’m so excited I’m so…scared!
You know that feeling when you have an initial jolt of excitement about a new idea only to have that feeling hijacked by fear and a sudden questioning of how good that idea really was in the first place?
The jolt I speak of is not the artificial kind fueled by caffeine pills like the infamous case of our friend Jessie Spano*.
It’s genuine excitement. It bubbles up from the very core of your true essence. And it’s immediately popped and deflated by your inner kill-joys…fear and doubt.
Maybe you’ve had an idea to take your career in a new direction. To start sharing your art with the world instead of just your cat. To start dating again. Maybe to start a business. Or, to learn how to bend a spoon with your mind (I don’t know what you get excited about! Also can you teach me how bc I’ve been trying and still no luck).
After college, I had a lot of exciting ideas about my future. Ideas involving books, music, psychology, & eventually settling down with Vin Diesel**.
Instead of following my excitement, I spent a DECADE in careers I wasn’t passionate about and feeling resigned to the fact that God forgot to fill in the “Work She Will Love” section of my life papers.
What I didn’t know back then was that Fear & Doubt were in charge of making my major life decisions.
If I had known how to EMBRACE my excitement and MANAGE my fear & doubt as I moved in the direction of my joy, I wouldn’t have spent YEARS in the wrong career and you might have received this email from Jessica Diesel.
Fear & doubt are the products of human nature and cultural conditioning. If you’ve ever had a bright idea (and you’re like most people), fear and doubt have been at the ready to rush in and snuff it out.
But those bright ideas are like our inner north stars – they illuminate the path we are meant to walk in life. Ideally, we want our life decisions to be guided by their light.
In my coaching practice, I love helping women who have lost pieces of themselves (and time) to the pressures of security and cultural conformity, rediscover and trust what truly lights them up.
We begin to manage fear & doubt, so you can start to feel safe enough to embrace and follow your genuine excitement. Ultimately, taking those bright ideas and turning them into the real-world fulfillment of your desires.
If you want help in doing the same, I invite you to reply to this email to see how I can support you in trusting yourself and your ideas that want to come to life.
Love,
Jessica Diesel (damn…it just sounds right)
*I always had to be Jessie Spano (bc same name) when we played Saved By the Bell at recess and I'm still mad about it.
**Please see my earlier email “You can't make me stretch." Y'all this is why it's so important you read EVERY word of EVERY email I send ;)
