i hope you’re jealous!
ooohhhh jealousy (*sings in voice of Natalie Merchant)
The green-eyed monster. One of the 7 deadly sins. Jelly belly.
Jealousy gets a bad rap.
Naturally, so. Because when we feel jealous, it pings on any number of uncomfortable feelings: lack, fear, anger, doubt, and sadness.
Jealousy highlights the gap between what we have and what we want. When we don't believe that we can ever have what we truly want, jealousy cuts even deeper.
So, like the good little survivalists that our brains are, we AVOID feelings of jealousy. Sometimes that looks like denying our jealous feelings. Sometimes it looks like cutting the person down who we are jealous of - “she's so CRINGE" - so we can pretend we don't really want what she has.
What most people don't get is that jealousy is a giant arrow pointing directly at THE THING YOU WANT.
This is particularly great news if you are someone who has trouble figuring out what you actually want.
I get jealous all the time. I used to hate that feeling and suppress it or judge the person I was jealous of. Now I lean into that sh*t. Turn that green eyed monster into a jade crystal ball that lets me know what my heart wants and what I'm still working toward.
I'll leave you with some Q's:
Who are you jealous of right now?
What do they have that you want?
Do you want it from your heart or from your Ego?
How are you equally as deserving of this thing as the person you're jealous of? (*if you don't feel deserving, there's some belief work to do and I'd invite you to come chat with me about that).
Love,
Jessica
