fear is the mind-killer…

“Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration." - Frank Herbert, Dune.

Yaasss to having an excuse to quote Dune.

In my coaching, I talk about The Big 3 dreams killers - Fear, Doubt, & Insecurity. If they aren't faced and managed, they will stop you from pursuing your soul's dreams.

Fear was the theme of my week. Historically, I have been a person paralyzed by fear. In part, that's because I've held the deeply-rooted belief of “I'm helpless” that's caused me to freeze up in the face of fear.

I've done a lot of work around re-programming that belief. This week, that work was put to the test. In the middle of the night, I watched from my bedroom window as people were breaking into my car. (Mind you, I drive a Subaru. If you think you're going to find anything other than like tarot cards and crystals in a Subaru…that's on you burglars!).

Instead of freezing, I did what I could do. I called 911. I put on pants. I hung up on 911 bc they were essentially asking me to fill out a dating profile for my car and I was like ummmm I need you to tell the po po to get here in case I'm about to be murdered!! I called the neighborhood police. I tried not to crap my recently donned pants. The burglars left without so much as an Amethyst. The police came. And I fell asleep clutching my emotional support cat 3 hours later.

What does this have to do with your career??

Fear is the mind killer. The antidote to fear is action.

This is def not a “what to do in case you're burgled” situation - and my experience could have been a million times worse. But it was a real-time reminder that you move through your fear by taking action.

Fear can put your dream in a block of ice for years.

If you have a dream but feel like it's “frozen” or you can't move forward, there is definitely some fear (either conscious or subconscious) there.

Here are 3 ways to move toward your dream in the face of fear:

  1. Imagine the Worst-Case-Scenario. How would you handle it?

  2. How have you handled similar situations in the past? What was the outcome?

  3. Take courageous, messy, aligned ACTION.

What is an action you know you need to take that would move the needle in the direction of your dream? What's the worst that could happen if you took that action? How would you handle the WCS? What do you need to believe in order to take that action soon?

Happy Friday and have a safe weekend!!

Love,

Jessica
